Public lands sit at the center of Sedona's visitor economy
The current forest notices, two music dates, and an adoption stop next week.
September starts with a clear link between the red rocks and the local economy, plus two evenings at Posse Grounds.
The Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association met at Enchantment Resort for a regional forecast. Public agencies and private groups took part. The session focused on industry numbers, growth and what comes next.
Kiva Couchon leads strategic work for the Arizona Office of Tourism. She shared new figures from that office. The main finding was direct: public lands are the primary driver of Sedona tourism.

Know your zone before you need it
Sedona Fire District says all fire restrictions remain lifted. Burn permits and forms are available through the district.

The district also asks Coconino County residents to Know Your Zone and sign up for emergency alerts. Both steps can be done now. Fire danger is holding at moderate across the forest
Coconino National Forest says fire danger is moderate in all three ranger districts. That same level applies in Flagstaff, Mogollon Rim and Red Rock.
Monsoon safety guidance also remains part of a forest visit. Fire danger and storm safety are two different checks. The moderate level covers the full district. A current alert may still affect one road, trail or campsite. Check for those alerts before you leave. For weekend plans, the baseline is simple: fire danger is not low, monsoon risks remain, and a place-specific alert can change where you go.
The fire district plans a 25-year remembrance
Sedona Fire District plans to mark 25 years since the September 11 attacks. Most firefighters and first responders who worked that day have since retired.
Board Chairwoman Helen McNeal said that makes it important to remember them. The plan includes Sedona and Verde Valley firefighters who went east after the attacks. Crews from this area joined the response far from home. Their trip gives the remembrance a local point of focus. The district plans to honor that service as part of the anniversary.
